King City, CaliforniaKing City straddles the Salinas River in southern Monterey County in Central California. Its official name is "The City of King,"for it's founder, Charles H. King (1842-1910) in 1886 Samuel Hamilton (1830-1904), John Steinbecks grandfather settled in the King City in the early 1870's John Ernst Steinbecks (1863-1935) father of novelist John Steinbeck (1902-1968), settled here in 1890, as the first agent for Southern Pacific Milling Company that had constructed a grain warehouse Steinbeck, met his wife, Olive Hamilton (1867-1934).
