This view by Eadweard Muybridge is of two prospectors, one Chinese and the other Caucasian, working together on a placer claim in the
Gold Country of California's Mother Load.
We also have other photos by Muybridge.
Muybridge was born on June 27, 1830 in Surrey, England and came to California in 1855, San Francisco working in a book shop. He went back to England for medical care after an accident in 1858 but returned in 1867 as an accomplished photographer working with Sellecks Gallery in San Francisco. He was one of the early photographers in the Yosemite Valley.
He also photographed the Modoc Indian War in 1873, and also did a series of Gold Mining.
He is best know for his animal locomotion and motion studies of a running horse.
Eadweard Muybridge died on May 8, 1904 in Kingston-upon-Thames, England.
