Named after captain Charles Moss, Moss Landing lies on the eastern shores of Monterey Bay at the mouth of Elkhorn Slough on the central California coast.
Holdings: over 250 photographs
Pajaro Valley Consolidated Railroad (Narrow Gage) Sugar king Claus Spreckels wanted transport services for his plant at Watsonville.
The April 18, 1906 earthquake destroyed the wharf and much of the infrastructure of Moss Landing.
Moss Landing shore Whaling Station's First Whale was, a Sperm whale, January 1919 and the Station closed in 1927.
Monterey Bay Salt Co. salt pond operators in the 1930's and Japanese oyster farmers and also in the 1930 and 40's in was Sardines fishing and canning in the late 1940 and early in the 1950 Basking shark fishery.
Castroville is 3.7 miles away.
